Have an adventures and safe Journey! Remember to be back due to receive the Nobel Prize on December 10. Please see and listen to Greta’s powerful speech to the National Assembly in Paris on Juli 23. “Unite behind the science.” further down this page.
Good news!
I’ll be joining the UN Climate Action Summit in New York, COP25 in Santiago and other events along the way.
I’ve been offered a ride on the 60ft racing boat Malizia II. We’ll be sailing across the Atlantic Ocean from the UK to NYC in mid August.#UniteBehindTheScience pic.twitter.com/9OH6mOEDce— Greta Thunberg (@GretaThunberg) July 29, 2019
Once again Greta Thunberg (16) the founder of the “School Strike 4 Climate” movement “walks the talk”. This time she boldly sets sail from the UK to the USA on the 60ft ‘zero-carbon’ racing boat Malizia II with solar panels and underwater turbines, to participate in the UN Climate Action Summit in New York on September 23. Once again proving she will not compromise her mission to stay grounded and not contribute to the airline industries huge CO2 emissions.
Thunberg said she’s unsure how her message will be received in the United States, where there’s broad opposition to the kind of radical measures scientists say are required to limit global warming to 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit by the end of the century compared with pre-industrial times.
“I will just try to go on as I have before,” the young Swede said. “Just always refer to science and we’ll just see what happens.”
Thunberg wouldn’t rule out meeting with President Donald Trump, who wants the U.S. to withdraw from the landmark 2015 Paris climate accord, but appeared doubtful such an encounter would happen because she thinks it would be “just a waste of time.”
On an individual level, to choose not to fly is the most sustainable single action to take for the overconsuming citizens of the world.
Statement from the Malizia II racing boat team:
Team Malizia, skippered by Pierre Casiraghi and Boris Herrmann have the great honour and pleasure to sail Greta Thunberg from the UK to New York for the UN Climate Action Summit on Malizia II. The journey will start in mid-August. Greta chose to sail with Team Malizia as they offered a zero-carbon mode of transport to reach the USA.
Pierre Casiraghi, founder of the team and co-skipper for the transatlantic crossing states “I believe in bringing awareness about rising global emissions and pollution due to human activity. Convincing governments and international institutions to make the step and enforce laws that will protect mankind and biodiversity are of the utmost importance for the future of humanity. Greta is an ambassador who delivers a fundamental message both for our society and for the survival of future generations. Team Malizia and I are proud to take Greta across the Atlantic in this challenging mode of transport, unfortunately, today this is still the only way without fossil fuel emissions. Hopefully, this will change in the near future. I respect Greta’s courage to take on this adventure and fully commit, sacrifice and fight for probably the greatest challenge of humanity.’
Skipper and professional sailor Boris Herrmann adds “Greta is an amazingly courageous person to be standing up against ignorance and injustice regarding the climate crisis. I am not surprised she considers this trip as something perfectly achievable for her – taking into account her courage in speaking up in a loud and clear way even in front of the most powerful people.”

The aspect of equity – clearly stated throughout the Paris Agreement – is absolutely necessary to make that agreement work on a global scale. No emission target leaving out that aspect will be enough.#ClimateEmergency https://t.co/6nDYxgw6P1
