Team Rynkeby – History

Team Rynkeby was founded in 2002 when 11 amateur cyclists associated with Rynkeby Foods A/S decided to cycle to Paris to see the final stage of the Tour de France.

Rynkeby Foods was the main sponsor of their trip, which was also backed by other companies. In fact, the cyclists who joined the world’s first Team Rynkeby team were so accomplished at finding sponsors that, when the team returned to Denmark just over a week later, the team had made € 5,100 profit.

1,900 CYCLISTS IN SIX COUNTRIES

Today’s Team Rynkeby comprises 1,900 cyclists and 450 volunteers, divided into 48 local teams in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, the Faroe Islands and Iceland.

Team members are selected from thousands of applicants, who have completed the application form on the Team Rynkeby website.

ALL FUNDS RAISED GO DIRECTLY TO CHILDREN WITH CRITICAL ILLNESSES

For almost a whole year participants must not only prepare themselves for the 1,200 kilometer trip to Paris but they are also obliged to do what they can to raise money for children with critical illnesses.

Rynkeby Foods A/S and God Morgon cover all the project’s primary costs, which means that the money Team Rynkeby raises in each country is donated directly to local organizations that help children with critical illnesses.

In 2017 Team Rynkeby donated EUR 8.8 million to organizations that help children with critical illnesses.

CRITICALLY ILL CHILDREN

Team Rynkeby supports children with critical illnesses in the entire Nordic region.

Team Rynkeby participants cover their own costs associated with participation on the cycling team. At the same time, Rynkeby Foods A/S and God Morgon cover all of the project’s central costs, which means that all contributions – large and small – go directly to the organizations that Team Rynkeby Foundation works with in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Faroe Islands and Iceland.

200 SCHOOLS ARE NOW REGISTERED FOR THE TEAM RYNKEBY SCHOOL RUN

The Team Rynkeby School Run has now reached 200 registered schools in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

While the country’s schools are preparing to go on Christmas break, Team Rynkeby Foundation can take stock of how it’s going with the registrations for the Team Rynkeby School Run in 2018.

And it’s going very well, explains Carl Erik Dalbøge, Director of Team Rynkeby Foundation, who is behind the Team Rynkeby School Run.

“At the present time, more than 200 schools have registered, which is really, really great. So we’re a little ahead of last year’s participation record when a total of 525 schools took part. On the other hand, Easter will also be a little earlier in 2018, so the deadline for registration is as soon as 2 February, and we won’t have as much time after Christmas to sign up the last schools as we did last year,” says Carl Erik Dalbøge.

“However, our participants are in dialogue with most of the schools in their respective local areas, so I feel confident that we will involve a great many schools this season,” he continues.

Huge community
The Team Rynkeby School Run is held at schools in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland on Friday before the Easter holidays – on 23 March 2018.

The Run is a traditional fun run, with the small addition that the students involved in the Run help raise money for children with critical illnesses. In Denmark, the students run for the Children’s Lung Association, while the pupils in Sweden, Norway and Finland run for children with cancer.

Prior to the Run, students have the opportunity to enter ‘micro-sponsorships’ with family, friends and local businesses who are invited to donate a modest amount (such as € 0,50) per lap or kilometer that each child completes in the Team Rynkeby School Run.

“This means that students aren’t just doing something good for themselves. “They also become part of a large Nordic community, which across classes, schools and national borders is helping to make a noticeable difference to children with critical illnesses,” says Carl Erik Dalbøge.

163,000 students from four countries
In 2017, 163,000 students from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland participated and raised € 1,9 million for children with critical illnesses.
