Donald Tusk attacks ‘fake leaders’ who lie to stay in power

‘To protect rule of law, you really have to accept that law should be above power, not at its beck and call,’ Donald Tusk at the UN General Assembly.

The use of words suggesting “an imminent conflict” between patriotism and globalism is” false and dangerous.”

Donald Tusk, President of the European Council of the European Union, addresses the general debate of the 74th Session of the General Assembly of the UN (New York, 24 – 30 September 2019).

European Union chief Donald Tusk said that the use of words suggesting “an imminent conflict” between patriotism and globalism is” false and dangerous.”

Addressing the General Assembly on Sep 26., President of the European Union Donald Tusk said: “the patriotism of the 21st century must also have a global dimension.” The top EU official reiterated, “the history of our nations shows how it is to transform the love of one’s homeland into hatred towards one’s neighbor; how it is to transform the pride of one’s own culture into a contempt for the culture of strangers; how easy it is to use the slogans of one’s sovereignty against the sovereignty of other’s.

Stating that the world is facing an environmental emergency, Tusk said, “the European Union will continue doing everything to confront the threat.” He continued, “Europe is showing the leadership in implementing the Paris agreement and we hope to win the race to become the first carbon-neutral continent.”
